Fishing on Sea Legs III

Today I went fishing with Zaide and my cousin, Benjamin, who went fishing for his first time.  Once we started the ride, the boat was rocking.  We paid five dollars to enter a tournament to catch the biggest fish.  We didn't win, but we got close.  First Benji and Zaide caught a blue runner.  That was Benji's first fish!  Then, I caught a squirrel fish.  The next stop Benji caught a grunt and I caught another squirrel fish.  The next stop, Benji caught another blue runner and I had a fish that was so heavy that I could berely hold up the rod.  It was a beautiful porkfish.  Next stop, Benji caught a squirrel fish and I had a very strong fish.  When I reeled it up, I saw that there were 2 fish on the line! They were both trigger fish!  Next we went back to shore.  What a fun day!

Fishing in Oleta River

Today I went fishing with Zaide and my little brother Jacob, who has been waiting his whole life to go fishing with me.  At the beginning of the trip I used shrimp as bait.  I did a couple of casts but I didn't get anything.

But all of the sudden, I had a nibble and straight away I had a bite!  Since I could see through the water I could see it was a grouper!  I was trying to fight it with Jacob, the more I tried to hook it more I lost it.  We didn't catch anything the rest of the trip but we still had fun.

Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico

On Saturday, I went Deep Sea Fishing with my Dad in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Clearwater, Florida.  We took a 7:00 a.m. flight out of Miami and landed in Tampa less than an hour later.  When we got there, the sky was so cloudy and foggy that we were afraid that we might not be able to go fishing.

After a good breakfast, we drove to the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Pete.  I thought all the pictures and sculptures were really cool.  By the time we left the museum, the fog and clouds were gone.  It was time to go fishing!

We drove to Clearwater Beach and went on a boat called the Super Queen, which is part of the Queen Fleet.  We left the marina at 1:00 pm and went about 7 miles off the coast.  At the first stop, my Dad baited squid onto the hook for me, and I caught 4 fish!  All grunts!  At the next stop, I caught 3 more grunts.  Then I caught 2 grunts at each of the next 2 stops.  11 grunts altogether!  What a fun day!

First time fishing off a boat!

Today I went fishing off a boat for the first time! The boat was called sea legs III. I went with Annette my aunt because she likes fishing with me. At the beginning of the trip I had to rush because I was going to miss the boat but I made it just in time. when I got on the boat,we made some stops but I didn't catch anything. Finally I caught a fish it was called a lane snapper. Next,I dropped my line in the water. I wasn't waiting a long time until I felt another bite. I reeled it up and it was a colorful fish but I don't know what it was called and it was to small.(I usually go catch and release fishing but this time I was keeping.)After I released it my aunt caught a blue runner. Later, I caught 2 lane snappers. I put the squid in the water when my aunt had a fish on her hook. She pulled the line up and it was a porgy! But while I was paying attention to to the porgy, I didn't know that their was a fish on my line so once I figured out that their was a fish on my line I reeled as fast as I could to find out that on both of my hooks(I had two hooks)I had a fish! After I caught that fish I went to another area to go fishing and I waited a little bit of time until a fish bit the hook. I was struggling to catch it but finally I caught it! It was a trigger fish! What I always wanted to catch! When I got back to the dock, I got all the big enough fish to eat and I ended up having 7 fish to eat. They were the porgy and 6 lane snappers. I had them for dinner and they were really good! What a day!

Florida pier fishing

Today I went fishing on a pier in Florida for the first time.  I went with my aunt.  At the pier it was a bit windy but I still caught a fish. When I started fishing, a shark broke the line.  I knew it was a shark because later on, I saw a huge shark at the surface of the water and while I was fighting it (with my aunt) I couldn't move the reel.  After that I felt tugs but they didn't bite.  Finally, when I only had one shrimp left, I felt a huge bite. I reeled in as hard as I could have, and I CAUGHT A JACK!
